After graduating from Indiana University with an M.S.D. degree in 1962, Dr. Tom
Mulligan has been in the private practice of orthodontics since that
time, having also been on the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Phoenix, for almost twenty-five years.
His life has consisted of an orthodontic practice, authoring several
books, lecturing worldwide, and raising a family of eight children.
While his children were younger, he flew a Turbo Cessna 206 for 20
years. His wife, Teresa, and his children were able to accompany
him on many of his trips - both personal and business.
His practice has always involved family members in addition to other
employees. All eight of his children have worked with him, at one
time or another, as well as his wife who still assists him with his
office duties. She travels
with her husband on his foreign lectures and has worked with her
husband in the office for over twenty years..
His present practice consists of patients whose parents, in most
cases, were his patients in the early years of his practice. Progress
reports have always been a regular part of his practice and have
created a very family oriented relationship with parents, patients,
and staff.
In spite of the marketing atmosphere so prominent today, Dr. Mulligan
has never chosen to advertise, but has always practiced with the
philosophy, “Just do what is right for the patient and everything
else will take care of itself.”
He says this has led him to continue
the practice of orthodontics without any date set for retirement.
Dr. Mulligan recently published his
third book, "Common Sense Mechanics in
Everyday Orthodontics II." This edition is the
first in full color.
